Allison Lindley two shots off individual lead through 36 holes

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The Ball State women's golf team came within two of the lowest 36-hole mark in program history Monday to grab the lead after the opening day of the Kingsmill Intercollegiate.
The Cardinals lead by six strokes with a two-round total of 17-over par 593 (300-293) on the River Course at Kingsmill Resort. Richmond (+23) is second, followed by Marshall (+25) and host William & Mary (+26) in the 22-team field.
All five Ball State golfers are among the top 40 out of 118 players in the event, led by Allison Lindley and Manon Tounalom in the top 5.
Lindley is third, just two strokes off the individual lead held by William & Mary's Liz Choi. The Ball State senior from Kokomo, Indiana, sits at 1-over par 145 (75-70). She matched her career-best in the afternoon with a 2-under 70, featuring four birdies, tying for the lowest score of the round.
Tounalom, coming off a 68 in the final round of BSU's most recent event, is three shots behind Lindley and five off the lead. She is tied for fifth at 148 (73-75).
Kelsey Sear is tied for 16th at 150 (76-74), giving the Cardinals three golfers among the top 20. Morgan Nadaline in 33rd at 153 (76-77) and Sydney Anderson in 40th at 155 (81-74) round out the Ball State lineup with one round to play.
The Cardinals were five shots off the lead after Monday's opening round but stormed ahead by carding the lowest second round of any team in the field. BSU's 293 in the afternoon was four strokes off the school-record round. The team's 36-hole total of 593 was two more than the program record of 591 through 36 holes at the 2010 UNLV Invitational.
The third and final round of the Kingsmill Intercollegiate will be played Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring is available at birdiefire.com.
