Men's Tennis Suffers 5-2 Setback In MAC Opener At WMU
March 24, 2017 | Men's Tennis
The Broncos took an early lead with doubles wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The senior duo of Lucas Andersen and Andrew Stutz defeated the nationally ranked twosome of No. 74 Daniel Loebel and Kennosuke Nouchi by a score of 6-2 on the top court. The twosomes were the first to come off the court but the Broncos prevailed at the next two positions in order to take the point from Ball State.
Western Michigan then picked up points on four, three and one to build the 4-0 lead over the Cardinals. Maik Steiner's 6-2, 7-5 take down over Nemanja Guzina clinched the match for the Broncos. Two Cardinals were able to get wins for Ball State today, Patrick Downs and Conner Andersen. Downs earned the first point for Ball State after registering a three set thriller over Jannik Opitz on court five. He won the first set 6-1 but then suffered a 6-2 loss in the second set and then fell 6-4 in the third. Conner Andersen would end the competition with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Eric Olivarez at the No. 6 position.
