Women’s Volleyball Sends Three to U.S. Women’s National Team Tryouts

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Three members of the Ball State women's volleyball team will be competing for spots in the U.S. Women's National Team Program this weekend when USA Volleyball hosts its open tryouts March 3-5 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Representing the Cardinals will be sophomore Brooklyn Goodsel (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) and freshmen Kate Avila (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) and Amber Seaman (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf).
Goodsel concluded her sophomore season as a 2016 First Team All-Mid-American Conference selection. A starter in 27 of the team's 31 matches, she ranked ninth in the conference with a 2.96 kills-per-set average. Goodsel smashed double digit kills in 19 matches, while leading the team in kills 13 times. She also ranked second on the team in service aces (17) and third in total blocks (52).
Avila was named to the 2016 MAC All-Freshman team after leading the squad and ranking sixth in the league with a 4.19 digs-per-set average. Ball State's starting libero for the final 30 matches of the season, Avila tallied double-digit digs in 29 of the 31 matches she played. She secured a career-high 36 digs vs. Appalachian State (Sept. 10) and finished the year with 20-or-more digs on nine occasions.
Seaman finished her freshman campaign ranked sixth in the MAC with a 9.26 assists-per-set average. A starter in 22 of the 27 matches she played, Seaman helped guide the Ball State offense to a .208 attack percentage by handing out a team-high 972 assists. She led the team in service aces (26) and ranked second on the squad in digs (270). Seaman also led the squad with 13 double-doubles on the year, all of the assist/dig variety. Her career-high 22 digs at Fort Wayne (Aug. 27) are the most for a Ball State setter in a match in the rally scoring era (2001-present).
Over 240 players representing 81 colleges and 10 high schools will attend the USA Volleyball tryouts, vying for sports on the U.S. Women's National Team, U.S. Collegiate National Team or U.S. Junior National Team. Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame member Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women's National Team staff will lead the three-day tryout process.
