Men’s Swimming and Diving Set to Compete in Conference Meet

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's swimming and diving team will travel to Carbondale, Ill. to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championship meet Wednesday, March 1 through Saturday, March 4.

LAST YEAR
Over the course of the 2016 MAC Championships, the Cardinals combined to earn top-16 finishes on 13 occasions, as well as top-8 finishes in six events.
Last year's host school Eastern Michigan was able to seal its second consecutive MAC Championship title with a performance of 846 points, while Buffalo earned second with 649 points. Missouri State earned third place with 634 points, while the Cardinals edged Evansville who marked 142 points.
PRESEASON RANKINGS
The Eastern Michigan Eagles have been selected by the Mid-American Conference Men's Swimming and Diving coaches to repeat as MAC champions this year. The Eagles will look to earn their 33rd MAC title this season. Leading Eastern is 2015-16 MAC Swimming Coach of the Year, Peter Linn. Also leading the charge is 2015-16 Diver of the Year, senior diver Alex Chan and his coach, 2015-16 Diving Coach of the Year, Buck Smith. Although the Eagles have lost Andrew Henry, they return three All-MAC first team recipients.
The Buffalo Bulls have been selected to finish second this season, while receiving one first place vote. The Bulls return two All-MAC first team recipients, Mason Miller and Itai De La Vega, and three second team recipients Charles Barry, Scott Huang, and Reid Zyniecki. Missouri State also received one first place vote and has been selected to finish third this season. 2015-16 MAC Freshman Swimmer of the Year, Artur Osvath, returns to the pool for the Bears this season.
Miami claimed the fourth spot, with Southern Illinois sitting fifth. Ball State and Evansville round out the bottom of the MAC, being selected to finish sixth and seventh, respectively.
