January 21, 2017 | Track & Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State track & field team closed the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana with a pair of event wins Saturday afternoon at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
Â
For the second straight weekend, sophomore high jumper Regan Lewis (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) cleared the bar at a career-best height of 1.76m (5-9.25). This time, the effort landed her on top of the podium as no one else in the field was able to clear better than 1.72m (5-7.75). Lewis' leap of 1.76m (5-9.25) is currently tied as the third-best individual performance in program history.
Â
The Cardinals also captured the event title in the 4x800m relay, with the freshman quartet of Hannah Cummings (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline), Peyton Kneadler (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes), Brooke Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) and Emily Tromp (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) pacing the field by almost seven seconds at 9:13.44. The effort nearly broke the school record of 9:12.20 and was the fastest time for the Cardinals since at least the 2010 season.
Â
Kneadler also turned in an impressive showing in the 600m dash, winning her heat with a career-fast time of 1:36.89 to place fourth overall. Tromp finished the 600m run in 1:38.15 to earn seventh.
Â
Rounding out Ball State's top performances on the final day of the meet was freshman Kelsey Walters (Troy, Ohio/Troy) who placed 14th in the shot put with a career-best throw of 12.85m (42-2).
Â
The Ball State indoor track & field team will turn its focus back to training for the next two weeks before returning to action Feb. 3-4 at the Akron Invitational.
