Harris’ Second-Place Finish Leads T&F on Day 1 of Gladstein Invitational
January 20, 2017 | Track & Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - Freshman sprinter Jasmine Harris (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange) clocked a career-fast time of 8.53 in the finals of the 60m hurdles to place second in the event and lead the Ball State track & field team on the opening day of the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana.
In her first collegiate appearance at IU's Gladstein Fieldhouse, Harris was the third seed coming out of the prelims of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.76. However, she turned it up a notch for the finals with her time of 8.53 being the fastest for a Ball State indoor hurdler since Katie Johnson placed second at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships with a time of 8.50.
Harris was not the only Ball State student-athlete to score a career-best mark in the 60m hurdles on the opening day of the two-day meet, as senior Kassidy Swenson (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) placed 16th with a time of 9.03.
In the lone field event for the Cardinals Friday, Adrienne Mayfield (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) continued her impressive junior campaign by placing 10th in the weight throw with a career-best distance of 15.78m (51-9.25).
The Ball State indoor track & field team returns to action Saturday morning, starting at 10:45 a.m., with sophomore sensation Regan Lewis (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) looking to build upon her career best effort in the high jump of 1.76m (5-9.25) set last weekend.
Overall, the Cardinals will be competing in five events Saturday. Fans can follow the action with live results at the following link: http://sidearmstats.com/indiana/track/
