Ball State Student-Athletes Post Quality Academic Numbers in the Fall Semester
January 12, 2017 | General
MUNCIE, Ind. – The 2016 fall academic semester was another successful one in the classroom for Ball State University student-athletes. Fourteen of the 18 Cardinal athletic teams finished the fall semester with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) at or above 3.0.
"We are very proud of the academic success our teams achieved for the fall semester," Director of Athletics Mark Sandy said. "Earning a degree is the foremost goal of our student-athletes, and their efforts were outstanding."
Men's tennis posted the highest team GPA at 3.64. The Cardinals, who reached the Mid-American Conference Championship match last spring and are led by the 2016 MAC Co-Player of the Year Lucas Andersen, begin their 2017 spring schedule on Jan. 20 at Notre Dame.
Women's soccer was tops among the 11 women's programs (indoor and outdoor track & field combined) with a 3.62 GPA. The soccer team won its second straight MAC regular season title in the fall and saw three players earn all-region accolades – Academic All-American goalkeeper Alyssa Heintschel, defender Leah Mattingly and defender Lorina White.
Thirty-one student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA last semester, while 140 student-athletes qualified for the Dean's List. Overall, 67 percent of the 436 student-athletes ended the semester with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Thirteen student-athletes earned their collegiate diplomas from Ball State University this past December. The final fall GPA for all student-athletes was 3.11.
