All-Access: Volleyball's SWAT Team

Volunteer assistant Brad Kline lives a little bit of a different life in his day job
Tipton, IN - A medic in training has just arrived at the shooting range, ready to go through another round of SWAT team training.  He'll be escorted toward a fellow SWAT member who's acting as an injured combatant.  The job is to treat that officer while in the line of fire.  One of the SWAT teammers giving him cover, complete with live rounds, is Brad Kline, a Noblesville police officer and a Ball State women's volleyball volunteer assistant coach.  Now those are two jobs not routinely found together.
Kline works as a cop from 5pm to 5am. Â He volunteers his other time with the Cardinals, often taking the bulk of his vacation time to make the two jobs jive. Â Sometimes it means sleepless nights (days) or quick changes. Â Other times he drives himself to road games separate of the team to ensure his schedule's straight. Â It's an insane routine only possible for somebody who absolutely loves volleyball.
A former high school coach near Indianapolis, Kline made his way to Muncie with Steve Shondell's staff several years ago. Â Kline was then kept on by Kelli Miller this past offseason as a vital member of the Cardinals. Â Not only is Kline a volunteer assistant (with zero pay), but he's given a great deal of latitude working with the student-athletes just like any other full-time coach would. Â The only difference with Kline is that while other coaches recruit he goes to SWAT training.
Ball State All-Access traveled along on one of Kline's training days to get a better idea of what life's like for the volunteer coach and full-time cop.
