If anyone were to be most familiar with the Ball State Track & Field and Cross Country program, it would most likely be Sarah Mahnensmith. A two-time graduate from Ball State with an undergraduate degree in intense interventions and a master's degree in special education, Mahnensmith competed for the Cardinals for five years, setting top-50 program times in the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters along the way.
Now, in her first coaching job post graduation, The Indiana native serves as the director of internal operations for Ball State Track & Field and Cross Country as well as being an assistant coach for the team. She attributes her interest in coaching to wanting to stay involved in a sport that has had a big impact on her life.
"Running has taught me a lot about discipline, consistency, teamwork, and pushing through challenges," said Mahnensmith. "I want to use my experiences as an athlete to help encourage athletes when training gets difficult, celebrate their accomplishments, and help them understand that success is about more than just times and places."
On top of serving in her role with Ball State, Mahnensmith also works as a special education teacher for students in grades 6-12.
