Former Ball State men's tennis player Jon Wegener will return for a second season as the men's tennis graduate assistant.
Wegener will be a graduate assistant for the men's tennis program. He returns to Ball State after playing for the Cardinals under the direction of Richards. Wegener has also spent the past two seasons as a volunteer coach for the Ball State women's tennis program for head coach Max Norris. Wegener helped the Cardinals claim their 20th Mid-American Conference Tournament title after Ball State took down Toledo in 2011 at Western Michigan's Sorenson Courts. That year Ball State earned the opportunity to compete in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Ohio State.
In 2011 Wegener transferred to Taylor University where he played at the No. 1 singles position. He then transitioned into becoming an assistant coach for the Taylor men's tennis program in 2012. Wegener graduated from Taylor in the fall of 2013 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. From September of 2013 until November, Wegener toured Columbia while competing in tennis tournaments on the Futures circuit. After that, Wegener became a teacher at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center, where he will continue his duties while helping coach the Cardinals.
Wegener was raised in Muncie and attended Heritage Hall Christian School. He is the son of James and Joy Wegener. He has three sisters, Julie, Jenny, and Janet, and four brothers, Jimmy, Josh, Joe and Jason. Wegener was born September 27, 1989, in Denver, Colorado.
