PREP CAREER: Earned three letters in volleyball at Yorktown High School for coach Stephanie Bloom (a four-year letterwinner for the Cardinals from 2001-04, who ranks first in program history and third in MAC history with 2,273 career digs) … finished her three-year playing career with the Tigers at Worthen Arena, helping lead the program to the IHSAA Class 3A championship match … named second team All-State as a senior after collecting 296 digs and 121 kills over 112 sets played … also recorded 29 service aces and 25 blocks, while hitting .279 to help Yorktown finish the year with a 38-2 overall record … over her career, she tallied 705 digs and 70 aces while helping the Tigers compile a 98-12 record … also earned four letters in tennis at Yorktown … played club volleyball for Munciana.
PERSONAL: Maintains a 3.978 grade-point average as a speech language pathology major … born April 25, 1998 in Muncie, Ind. … daughter of Ramon and Teresa Avila … has three sisters, Sarah, Anne and Laura, and one brother, Ryan … her father was a three-year letterwinner for the Ball State men’s volleyball program from 1975-77 and is currently a George and Frances Ball Distinguished Professor of Marketing at his alma mater … her sister Laura was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball at Bowling Green from 2010-13 and finished her career ranked fourth in program history with 3,394 career assists and was a 2013 Capital One Academic All-District First Team honoree … full name is Katherine Grace Avila.
