Jon Sanders enters his first season as a volunteer assistant for the Ball State softball program in 2016. Prior to joining the Cardinals’ staff, Sanders enjoyed successful careers as both a collegiate and high school softball coach.
Including his time at both levels, Sanders has amassed a 210-105 career record, won four conference championships and mentored two Collegiate All-Americans, two Academic All-Americans and four High School All-Americans.
At the collegiate level, Sanders spent the 2012 season as the head coach of Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky., where he helped Mary Ann Warford become just the second National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-American in program history. Warford was also named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) Player of the Year and was one of five Eagles to earn All-Conference accolades.
In the classroom, his Asbury players earned four National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Scholar Athlete honors, while Warford became the first player in program history to be named to the Capital One Academic All-America College Division Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
After his stint as the lone coach of the Asbury program, Sanders spent the 2013 season as an assistant coach at Transylvania University, a NCAA Division III program in Lexington, Ky., where he worked with another All-American honoree.
Prior to his collegiate coaching career, Sanders was a highly successful high school coach in Central Indiana. He led Hamilton Heights High School to Mid-Indiana Conference titles in 2009 and 2010, and was also named the MIC Coach of the Year in 2009.
Sanders also coached four seasons (2005-08) at Daleville High School, leading the Broncos to a pair of Mid-Eastern Conference titles. He was also the head coach at Bloomington North High School in 2011 before joining the collegiate coaching ranks.
Sanders has also enjoyed success on the travel-team circuit, starting the Indiana Huskies program and leading it to consecutive state runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2009. The Huskies made one appearance in the national tournament in 2009.
Sanders graduated from Anderson University in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in history education.
