Dan Wenger was elevated to Ball State’s director of football strength and conditioning in spring 2024, and widely credited for the Cardinals' significant increases in strength and speed. He was originally hired as the assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2021.
Prior to joining the Cardinals staff, Wegner worked five seasons at Stephen F. Austin as associate, and assistant, director of sports performance. He served as the conditioning coach at Western Michigan for three seasons after beginning his coaching career at Florida where he was a graduate assistant coach for the offense.
Wenger graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Notre Dame in 2010. He received a master's degree in education from the University of Florida in 2015, and later a second master’s from Concordia St. Paul, in exercise science, in 2019.
Before coaching, Wenger was an offensive lineman over a six-year collegiate career between Notre Dame and Florida. He spent a rookie mini-camp with the New York Jets.
With the Irish and Gators, he contributed to 41 victories and three bowl triumphs. Notably, Wenger played a key part in guiding Florida to a bowl win against Ohio State. His on-field achievements include being selected to Phil Steele's Midseason All-SEC Team in 2011 and being recognized as one of the top offensive linemen on the national preseason top 100 list by CBS SportsLine.com in 2005. Wenger was also honored as a top-150 player during his high school career.
Wenger holds professional credentials to bolster his strength and conditioning resume that include a USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach certification with United States Weight Lifting. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a certified strength and conditioning coach with the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach's Association. He is CPR/AED/First Aid certifield by the American Red Cross.
Dan is married to Mackenzie, and they have a daughter (Sadie) and son (Maverick).
