Lieke attended Philips van Horne school and is looking forward to studying journalism at Ball State. Lieke is a defensive central midfielder and will be a huge asset for the Cardinals in the fall. The Cardinals will graduate senior Jenna McKune, who's (tiny) shoes will be hard to fill and Lieke is excited for the opportunity. At home, Lieke competes for her club team HV Weert, and she has won the Subtop championship twice in indoor and once in outdoor.
Lieke on her decision, "I chose ball state university mainly because of the good connection I felt with the coaches. They were very enthusiastic, and the team really seemed like they were a strong and close family, besides the competitive atmosphere, which gave me a great feeling because of the top-level hockey. Stephanie and Chelsea were very welcoming from the start and I immediately knew I wanted to be part of the team after the first conversation! The journalism major Ball State offers is well-regarded, and the campus looks amazing, which also made me choose BSU! I'm very excited to be a Cardinal and can't wait for my time at BSU!"
Ball State head coach Stephanie Bernthal, "Lieke is an awesome fit with our team culture, which is always the first thing we look for. She has great passion for hockey, being a part of a close family, and for competing at a top level. We are thrilled for her addition to our 2021 group. The class will add tremendous value to our squad and push us to new heights".
