The Ball State baseball team has announced the hiring of Bill Zenisek as the director of baseball performance in June 2025.
Zenisek, the strength and conditioning coach for baseball from 2018-2022, returns to the program after a stint as the director of strength and conditioning for the Prospects Organization.
“We are so excited to have Bill back running our strength program,” head coach Rich Maloney said. “Bill is simply outstanding. He is very structured, organized, fundamentally sound and passionate about helping our players reach their full potential – a great addition to our staff.”
In addition to this role, Zenisek will continue to work as a senior lecturer in Ball State’s School of Kinesiology where he has taught since 2011. He teaches in the exercise science program and specializes in strength and conditioning education.
“I’m beyond excited to return to Ball State baseball as the director of baseball performance,” Zenisek said. “I’m energized by the opportunity to make an impact, challenge players to reach their full potential and to contribute to a program that values development, hard work and grit. I’m eager to meet the team and get to work with Coach Maloney and his staff to assist our student-athletes chase greatness.”
During his time with the team, Zenisek has developed and trained multiple MLB Draft Picks including: Drey Jameson (Arizona Diamondbacks, 2019, #34), Kyle Nicolas (Miami Marlins, 2020, #61), Chayce McDermott (Houston Astros, 2021, #132), Tyler Schweitzer (Chicago White Sox, 2022, #161), Zach Cole (Houston Astros, 2022, #313), Ryan Brown (Los Angeles Dodgers, 2023, #280), and Jacob Hartlaub (Tampa Bay Rays, 2025, #417).
What Others are Saying:
“Coach Bill Zenisek offered the very best for my teammates and me at Ball State. His hard work and dedication to our team showed up every day in the weight room, at the field, etc. He had a drive to make all of us better, adapting and accommodating to players’ needs. Personally, Bill helped me tremendously in making the strides I needed to become a baseball player at the next level.”
Kyle Nicolas, RHP in the Pittsburgh Pirates Organization (Ball State Baseball 2017 – 2020) (2020 Draft Pick #61 (2nd Round))
“During my time at Ball State I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to work with Bill Zenisek. Bill is selflessly devoted to each and every one of the athletes he works with and skillfully crafts a plan for their development.
"While working with Bill it was very easy to tell that he cared about my growth as both a person and an athlete. Bill is focused on long-term development and is dedicated to growing the athletes he works with into elite performers. It is important to note that Bill has a specific plan for each individual athlete that helps them grow into their own natural strengths, and targets individual weaknesses that he eventually turns into strengths.
I highly recommend working with Bill if you want the best. In order to become an elite athlete, you must surround yourself with people that hold themselves to elite standards, and that is exactly what Bill does.
Without Bill Zenisek I would not be where l am in my career as a professional baseball player. I can't say enough great things about working with Bill Zenisek. He is a fantastic coach, person, and friend for life.”
Trennor O’Donnell, Pitcher in the Boston Red Sox Organization (Ball State Baseball 2019 – 2023) (2023 Draft Pick #238 (8th Round))

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse graduate got his master’s in sport administration from Ball State in 2008 and holds certifications from the National Strength & Conditioning Association, United States Weightlifting and Driveline (pitching and hitting).
