Cardinal Sprinters Compete in Top Caliber Duke Twilight Meet
May 03, 2026 | Track & Field
DURHAM, N.C. -- Top college and even international competitors ran prime-time races at Duke University on Sunday, with Ball State sprinters active in a series of events as a prelude to the Mid-American Conference Championships the Cardinals will host in two weeks.
Putting themselves against elite competition, the Cardinals opened the day with what would be their top finish, placing fourth behind Duke, High Point and Harvard in the 4x100-meter relay, an event in which Ball State set a program record just last week. Last week's mark in Louisville, 44.72, was not contested, though Ball State finished at 45.10 on Sunday, a mark that still would rank fifth in school history.Â
A pair of races produced personal bests for Cardinals competitors: freshman Lia Patterson clocked 1:01.78 in the 400-meter hurdles, and Alana Springer and Trinity Bibbs both set PRs in the 200m dash. Springer, Ball State's senior veteran, sprinted to a 23.64 PR for a 10th-place finish, now poised to compete in the upcoming MAC Championships. Bibbs, a freshman, clocked 24.39 in her best time of the season.
Still scheduled late Sunday evening (9:40 p.m.) is Carly Spletzer, the Cardinals' top distance runner, in section two of the 5000 meters.
