Gymnastics Scores Season High 195.975 at Maryland Quad

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland - - The Ball State gymnastics team closed Saturday's Maryland Quad with three straight scores of 9.900 on bars to earn a season-high team score of 195.975.
It is the second straight meet the Cardinals (13-7) have finished with a season-high effort after going 195.750 last Friday at the Pitt Quad.
In the final rotation, senior Zoe Middleton started the rally with her highest bars score of the season. Senior Mary Rose Bellan followed with a career-best effort, while junior Ashley Szymanski closed the competition with her fifth bars score of 9.900-or-better this season.
While the host Terrapins won the meet with a score of 196.225, the Cardinals had at least one individual on top of the carts in all four individual events and scored head-to-head wins over both Temple (194.875) and Cornell (193.175).
Prior to her season-best effort on bars, Middleton turned in the Mid-American Conference's best vault this season, winning the event with a 9.925. The two-event winner also placed second in the all-around with a score of 38.950.
With her two season-high marks, Middleton has now scored 9.900-or-higher in 26 collegiate routines. She is the only gymnast in program history to record at least 9.900 on all four apparatus.
The Cardinals started the day on beam, with junior Delaney McMahon and Ashley Szymanski closing the rotation with back-to-back scores of 9.875 to tie for the event title.
The second rotation saw freshman Carley Stalder earn her first career floor victory by tying for top honors with a career-best 9.875.
Overall, it was the third meet this season Ball State has claimed the top spot in all four individual events. In addition, the Cardinals have won 26 of a possible 40 event titles this season.
Along with the event wins, Ball State's season-high total included 10 scores of 9.800-or-higher, including four of at least 9.900.
ROTATION 1: Beam (49.100)
- Ball State's 49.100 team score was its third best on beam this season, trailing only its pair of 49.250s
- Once again, the anchors of the rotation led the way with McMahon and Szymanski each scoring 9.875 to tie for the event win
- Stalder turned in her second-best score of the season at 9.825
- The Cardinals also counted a 9.775 from junior Lindsay Fuller and a 9.750 from sophomore Karli Mercer
ROTATION 2: Floor (48.800)
- Stalder led the way in the second rotation, earning a career-best 9.875 to tie for the top spot
- Sophomore Avery Kantor tied her career high, scoring 9.825
- Ball State also counted a 9.750 from junior Ava Molina and 9.675s from sophomore Viviana Campuzano and senior Alauna Simms
ROTATION 3: Vault (48.925)
- Middleton turned in the MAC's best vault of the season, winning the event with a 9.925, her sixth career vault of 9.900-or-better
- Mercer turned in the team's second-best score, earning a 9.775
- The Cardinals also counted 9.750s from Bellan and Stalder, along with a 9.725 from freshman Ava Thurston
ROTATION 4: Bars (49.150)
- Middleton, Bellan and Szymanski tied for the win on bars, closing the rotation with three straight scores of 9.900
- Mercer started the rally with a 9.825, while McMahon was Ball State's final countable score at 9.625

- Led by her 9.925 on vault and 9.900 on bars, Middleton place second in the all-around with a score of 38.900
