Langerak’s Career Low Round Leads Women’s Golf on Day 3 of Iguana Invite
March 05, 2026 | Women's Golf
HUMACAO, Puerto Rico. - - Senior Sabrina Langerak turned in a career-low round of -3 (69) Thursday to lead the Ball State women's golf team on the final day of the Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational hosted by the Cardinals.
"We played another really solid round of golf today," head coach Cameron Andry said. "Sabrina played really well with six birdies and an eagle today, and considering how she started the tournament, the way she played the final two rounds is really impressive."
In fact, Langerak started final tour of the Flamboyan Course at the Palmas Del Mar Golf Club with an eagle on the par-5, 455-yard 10th never looked back. It was Ball State's first of two eagles on the day and the second for Langerak this season.
Along with her eagle, Langerak added six birdies to finish the day at -3 (69), which tied as the lowest individual round of the tournament with Morgan Beaulieu's second-round effort. Throw in her -2 (70) from Wednesday and Langerak had two of the seven lowest rounds in the three-day event.
Langerak also climbed 16 more spots up the leaderboard Thursday into a tie for 13th overall at +8 (224). She ranked second among the 45-golfer field in both total birdies (12) and par-5 average of (-6 / 4.50).
Junior JJ Gregston was Ball State's top individual finisher in the Iguana Invitational, tying for sixth overall at +6 (222). After opening with rounds of -1 (71) and +2 (74), she closed with a +5 (77). She carded two more birdies in her final round, bringing her three-day total to 11, which was second on the squad and tied for third among the tournament field.
"I was proud of JJ for hanging in there and battling all the way to the end after a rough start," Andry said. "I think today was a valuable learning experience for her, as she was playing in the final pairing and entered the round just three shots off the lead. She didn't get off to a great start, but she hung in there and brought it back at the end. I think anytime you're in contention you learn some things about yourself and you're better prepared the next time you're in that situation."
Aided by her strong play on the courses' par-3s, sophomore Sophie Korthuijs finished 12th overall at +7 (223). She led the Cardinals and tied for fifth in the tournament in par-3 average (+1 / 3.08) and closed her tournament with a round of +4 (76).
Also turning in a strong showing for the squad on Thursday were seniors Sarah Gallagher and Jasmine Driscoll who each closed the tournament with rounds of +1 (73). Both players carded three bridies on the day, while Driscoll added BSU's second eagle, her second of the season, on the par-5, 495-yard 16th.
"It was great to get a solid round from Jasmine as she looks to find her groove coming down the homestretch of the spring season," Andry added. "Sarah played another really good round."
Overall, the Cardinals finished fourth among the eight-team field at +21 (885). Led by Langerak's -3 (69), the team shot +3 (291) Thursday, the third-lowest team score of the day.
Ball State dominated the field on Flamboyan's four par-5s, playing them at a combined -17 (4.72) for the tournament. The next closest team was Arkansas State at -8 (4.87). The Cardinals also registered a tournament-best 49 birdies, eight more than Arkansas State.
"I believe one of the formulas of playing winning golf is dominating the par-5s and we definitely did that this week," Andry added. "We also led the field in birdies, which is really encouraging. Now we must continue to eliminate the big numbers, which will allow us to make decent rounds into really good rounds."
Georgia State won the event at +13 (877), while Central Arkansas' Alethea Paige Gaccion earned the individual title with a birdie on the first playoff hole, hole 18. She finished the tournament at -2 (214), as did Georgia State's TK Kongthong.
On the individual front for Ball State, senior Madelin Boyd closed with her lowest round of the event at +2 (74). She played the back nine at -1 (35), including a birdie on the par-4, 403-yard 18th.
Next up for the Ball State women's golf team is the Nashville Invitational hosted by Lipscomb March 23-24 at Hermitage Golf Club.
