Cardinals Set for Final Non-Conference Road Swing at WKU and Bellarmine
March 04, 2026 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's tennis team (6-3) hits the road this week for its final non-conference matchups of the spring season. The Cardinals will face Western Kentucky in Bowling Green, KY, on Thursday, March 5, at 2 p.m. ET, followed by a Saturday noon showdown against Bellarmine in Louisville.
These matches serve as the final tune-up before Ball State begins Mid-American Conference (MAC) play on March 13 at Buffalo.
Ball State enters the week coming off a clinical 6-1 victory over Cleveland State. The Cardinals have won four of their last five matches, including wins over Dayton, Cincinnati, and Cornell.
Sarah Shahbaz and Isabel Tanjuatco remain undefeated with a 7-0 ledger in dual match play this spring. The pair recently secured a 6-2 win against Cleveland State. The duo overall since the fall holds a 17-1 mark.
Ball State's singles play has also been a core component of its success this spring. The Cardinals have demonstrated significant depth, particularly in the middle of the lineup, which has allowed them to secure close matches against high-level opponents.
Western Kentucky heads into the week at 8-6 following a dominant 6-1 victory over Tennessee State, while Bellarmine sits at 7-15 after a narrow 4-3 loss to Chattanooga.
Ball State leads the all-time women's tennis series against Western Kentucky 9–1, dating back to their first meeting in 1991. WKU's only win against Ball State occurred on February 18, 2018. This weeks' meeting versus Bellarmine Saturday marks the first competition between the Cardinals and the Knights.
Following this road trip, Ball State will officially open league action on Friday, March 13, at Buffalo. The Cardinals' first home MAC match is scheduled for March 22 against UMass.
