February 19, 2026 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team prepares for a high-profile split weekend, traveling to West Lafayette, to face Purdue University on Friday at 1 pm ET before returning to Muncie to host Cornell University on Sunday morning at 11 am ET.
Ball State enters the weekend following a successful midweek performance, having defeated the University of Cincinnati 4-3 on Wednesday. The Cardinals have been anchored by the top doubles pairing of Sarah Shahbaz and Isabel Tanjuatco, who enter the weekend with a perfect 5-0 spring record. Senior Asia Ting Fontana also continues to impress, recently clinching a critical match point to secure the victory over the Bearcats.
Purdue has historically been a tough regional rival, and this match marks another key opportunity for Ball State to challenge a Power Four program. The Boilermakers enter Friday's contest with a 2-4 ledger. Purdue has won the last two matchups against Ball State.
On Sunday, The Big Red travel to Muncie for a Sunday morning clash. Cornell comes to Ball State with a 3-3 overall record and will face Indiana University on Saturday prior to its match at First Serve against the Cardinals. This is the first-ever meeting between Ball State and Cornell.
After this weekend, Ball State remains home to face Cleveland State on Sunday, March 1 at 12 pm ET.
