
Women’s Volleyball Drops Weekend Finale to Eastern Kentucky

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Despite four players with double-figure kills, the Ball State women's volleyball team suffered a 3-2 (18-25, 27-25, 25-10, 19-25, 15-12) setback to Eastern Kentucky Saturday evening at Worthen Arena.
The Cardinals (4-8) were led at the attack line by sophomore outside Carson Tyler, who reached double figures for the 12th time this season with 19 kills. Graduate outside Noelle VanOort was second, with 14, while junior middles Camryn Wise and Gwen Crull chipped in 11 apiece.
Rounding out Ball State's attackers was graduate opposite Christyn Ashby with a Ball State career-high seven kills. Junior setter Lindsey Green set the offense to a .244 (62-22-164) rate of success, dishing out 48 assists to go along with 11 digs for her third double-double of the season.
In the backcourt, Cardinals' libero Sophie Ledbetter led all players with 27 digs.
On the other side of the net, Addison Burke led four Colonels in double figures with 20 kills. AG Hynes chipped in 18, while EKU as a squad finished the match with a .395 (75-13-157) attack percentage. Cassidy Trahan led the squad with 21 digs.
After taking the opening set by a seven-point margin, the battled back to tie the second stanza at 25 thanks to the block of Crull and Tyler, who tied for team-high honors with four total blocks each. Unfortunately, the Colonels (8-4) score the final two points to win the frame, while pulling out to an 8-1 edge on the way to winning the third.
Ball State would counter back with another solid win in the fourth, using three kills from Tyler and a pair from Crull in a to turn a 3-4 deficit into a 9-4 lead. VanOort would eventually end the set at 25-19. EKU came out hot in the fifth, however, pulling ahead 9-2. Ball State would battle back within one, however, with back-to-back aces from VanOort pushing the score to 13-12.
Like the second however, Eastern Kentucky would score the final two points to escape with the match win.
Next up for the Ball State women's volleyball team, the start of Mid-American Conference play with the Cardinals traveling to Buffalo (Thursday) and Akron (Friday). Both matches are slated for 6 p.m. first serves.
