MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's volleyball team gave fans all they wanted Saturday afternoon in Worthen Arena, securing a series split of Mid-American Conference leader Bowling Green courtesy of a 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 19-25, 15-13) victory on Chirp or Treat.
With the candy-infused crowd eating up all the action, the Cardinals (16-7; 7-5 MAC) used a heavily balanced attack to snap the Falcons' (18-5; 10-2 MAC) seven-match winning streak.
Perhaps the biggest lift came off the bench late in the fourth set in freshman outside Merritt Sliwa who registered six kills over the matches' final 39 points, including leading all players in the fifth set with four tallies.
However, the Cardinals still found themselves trailing 13-11 in the final set before back-to-back kills from senior middle Camryn Wise evened the score. After a service ace from junior opposite Tiffany Snook gave Ball State a 14-13 edge, Wise took advantage of an overpass off the serve for the match-winning kill.
Wise finished the night with 11 kills and a .409 (11-2-22) attack percentage. She also led Ball State at the net with five total blocks.
