MUNCIE, Ind. -- Fresh off a second-place finish at the Sam Bell Invitational in Bloomington last month, the Ball State cross country team ventures to Kalamazoo, Michigan, this weekend, to battle in the George Dales Invite, along a 6K course at The Prairies Golf Club.
At IU on Aug. 29, four freshmen making their college debut paced the Cardinals, led by Kaitlyn Kauppila's 4K time of 14:35.50. She was followed in that race by first-year teammates Emily Decker, Rosie Gonzalez and Sadey Seyferth, then returners Tori Jackson and Kendyl Thrasher.
In Kalamazoo, the Cardinals welcome back their top runner from 2024, Carly Spletzer, who replaces Kaupilla in this week's lineup. Spletzer, Decker, Gonzalez, Seyferth, Jackson and Thrasher comprise the six-runner lineup that races against 10 other teams at 10 a.m., Friday. Other teams competing include Mid-American Conference schools Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, host Western Michigan and Ohio; along with Division I teams Dayton, DePaul, Oakland and Valpairaiso, and nearby Michigan schools Calvin University and Hope College.
