Cardinals Highlight Adjustments as Football Prepares for Auburn
September 01, 2025 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – As the Ball State football program enters preparation for week two at Auburn after falling to Purdue in it's 2025 opener, head coach Mike Uremovich, redshirt junior defensive back Ashton Whitner and redshirt junior running back Qua Ashley talked with members of the media during the Cardinals' weekly presser.
Uremovich and the Cardinals emphasized their focus on correcting the little things and moving forward with a getting better every week mentality.
"Purdue didn't beat Ball State," Uremovich stated. "Ball State beat Ball State because we weren't being fundamentally sound. Those are things we can fix, and we will fix them."
Whitner credited the defense's progressive communication throughout the contest and explained his perspective on what needs to be seen in the unit's preparation against the Tigers.
"After every drive we went to the sideline, made adjustments and just fixed it from there on out," Whitner stated. "We've got to continue to keep our eyes right, and I think we'll be good for Saturday."
Ashley echoed the need to fix the fundamentals and the admiration for the team's communication throughout the game, specifically crediting redshirt senior quarterback Kiael Kelly's leadership and support toward the offense.
"[Kelly] is a vocal leader," Ashley stated. "Everybody is right behind him, and I feel like going forward the rest of the season, he'll be good for us."
