Field Hockey Comes Up Short in Season Opener to 13th-Ranked The Ohio State University
August 29, 2025 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field team (0-1) officially opened its 2025 season with a 7-0 loss to 13th-ranked The Ohio State University (1-0) Friday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.
Freshman Cali Hyman started in goal with an impressive performance as she collected 17 saves against the Buckeyes.
Ball State controlled the offensive tempo at the start of the contest but that didn't last long. At the 3:02 mark of the first frame of action, Ohio State took the ball from the Cardinals as Lindsey Roberts quickly found Zella Bailey at the opposite end of the field for the Buckeyes first score.
The Cardinals continued to put up a strong effort drawing four penalty corners in the opening period but unfortunately struggled to convert on those opportunities.
The Buckeyes then added goals in each of the remaining three periods which led to their shutout over the Cardinals.
Ball State had its best defensive effort in the third stanza as it held Ohio State to only one score that period.
Despite its efforts, Ball State was unable to connect on all cylinders offensively. Emma van Hal led BSU with three shot attempts and one shot on goal.
The Ball State field hockey team returns to the Briner Sports Complex on Sunday when it hosts Saint Louis at noon.
