Cardinals Emphasize Growth, Excitement Ahead of Season Opener
August 25, 2025 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ahead of Ball State's season opener at Purdue Aug. 30, head coach Mike Uremovich was joined by redshirt senior linebacker Joey Stemler and redshirt junior wide receiver Ty Robinson to speak with the media during the Cardinals' weekly press conference Monday morning.
As Uremovich looks to kick off his first season with Ball State against his alma mater, the 19th head coach in program history emphasized the team's growth and chemistry throughout camp.
"I'm really proud of the way the players and coaches have come together toward a common goal and go in the same direction," Uremovich stated. "It's a challenge because you have all those transfers come in, you've got new staff come in, and in May we had a bunch of other players come in. It doesn't always come together like you want it to, but it came together really fast this summer."
With both teams coming into week one with almost an entirely new look compared to the coaching staffs and rosters a season prior, Stemler expressed his excitement to play and showcase Ball State football against the Big Ten school.
"It's finally here when we get to hit somebody new," Stemler stated. "And we get to put what we've been working for since the winter on full display in front of 65,000 people and do it the Ball State way."
While Robinson looks forward to getting back onto the field since missing a majority of the 2024 season, he highlighted the motivation and energy surrounding the team heading into the Cardinals' season opener.
"I feel like this has probably been one of the most fun camps I've been a part of," Robinson stated. "The energy is just higher. Practice means something. If plays aren't being made, guys are upset. We're trying to win. The coaching staff has done a great job keeping the energy high and they expect big things from us. That carries over to the players as well. Everyone expects big things out of each other."
