MUNCIE, Ind. -- For the eighth consecutive semester, Ball State student-athletes recorded a combined department GPA of at least 3.40, this spring compiling a 3.487 mark that is the highest single-term mark in program history. Cardinals' student-athletes posted a combined 3.46 GPA over the 2024-25 academic year.
"Congratulations to our talented student-athletes on this remarkable collective academic achievement," said Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell, "I am grateful that our coaches and staff are committed to making academic success a priority, and no matter the metric, we have continued to set records. In particular, I applaud Lara Hillenberg and our student-athlete support services staff who deserve tremendous credit for guiding our student-athletes to academic progress."
All 19 Ball State sports teams boasted GPAs of at 3.125 during the spring semester. Women's golf (3.939) and soccer teams (3.931) had the highest GPAs among women's sports. The men's tennis team topped men's programs with a 3.525 GPA in the spring semester.
Cardinals student-athletes have seen their combined GPA continue to rise ever since eclipsing a 3.40 mark for the first time in Fall 2021. In succession, combined GPAs have steadily approached an elusive 3.5 mark for approximately 450 student-athletes: 3.41 (Fall 2021), 3.40 (Spring 2022), 3.40 (Fall 2022), 3.43 (Spring 2023), 3.44 (Fall 2023), 3.40 (Spring 2024), 3.43 (Fall 2024) and 3.48 (Spring 2025).
Earlier this week, NCAA Academic Progress Rates revealed a 992 score for Ball State during the 2023-24 academic year, matching another program record. The Cardinals have accomplished that 992 score in three of the past four years.
