
Baseball Lands Six on All-MAC Teams

Bevis, Grego, Husovsky and Johnson on First Team; Hartlaub and Richter on Second Team
Ball State baseball placed six student-athletes on the 2025 All-MAC teams, including four on the First Team, the Mid-American Conference office announced Tuesday morning.
Blake Bevis (outfield), Dylan Grego (shortstop), Nick Husovsky (second base) and Keegan Johnson (starting pitcher) were each named to the First Team, while Jacob Hartlaub (starting pitcher) and Alex
Richter (third base) earned Second Team honors in a vote of the league's head coaches.
Both Grego and Richter landed on the All-MAC Defensive Team as well.
Bevis wrapped up the regular season with a .296 batting average, .981 OPS, 13 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 48 RBI and 44 runs scored as Ball State's leading home run hitter. The junior from Brentwood, Tenn., is currently fourth in the MAC and No. 53 nationally in homers, while his 131 bases overall and 87 in MAC play are sixth and fourth in the league, respectively. Bevis ranks in a tie for sixth in home runs in a season in program history and is fourth in career homers (40).
Grego's 85 hits on the year lead the MAC, rank No. 16 in NCAA Division I and are the sixth-most in a season in Ball State baseball history. The junior out of Kansas City, Mo., concluded the campaign with a .371 batting average, 1.043 OPS, 13 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 52 RBI, 54 runs scored and 13 stolen bases while starting in every game. Grego paces MAC shortstops in hits, batting average, runs scored, home runs, RBI and total bases while ranking third overall in the conference in batting average and fourth in total bases.
Husovsky stands as the Cardinals' leader with 56 RBI (eighth in the MAC) and produced a .330 average, .947 OPS, 14 doubles, two triples, 10 homers and 43 runs scored as well. The senior out of Ramona, Calif., is fourth in the league in hits in MAC play (47) and seventh in total bases in MAC play (83) while being the top second baseman in the conference in hits, RBI, home runs and total bases. Â
Johnson earns First Team All-MAC honors for the second straight season after also being named the 2024 MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year. The left-hander out of Frederick, Md., posted a 7-3 record, 4.46 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, .226 batting average against and 75 strikeouts in 70.2 innings pitched this season, ranking second in the league in wins (seven) and third in both strikeouts and fewest hits allowed per nine innings (7.51).
Hartlaub earns his first conference postseason honor after going 6-2 with a 4.50 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 60 strikeouts in 80.0 innings. The senior right-hander from Milwaukee was a steady presence for the Cardinals, who went 10-0 in MAC games he started and 12-2 overall. Hartlaub's six wins are third among MAC hurlers, while his innings pitched both overall and against MAC teams are the second-most in the league.
Richter picked up the pace in conference play to the tune of a league-best 15 home runs in MAC play. The senior from Carmel, Ind., also set a school record for getting hit by a pitch in a season with 27 currently and posted a .961 OPS, seven doubles, two triples, 16 homers, 51 RBI and a team-high 57 runs scored on the regular season.
"It is always good to have our players recognized for their accomplishments," Ball State head coach Rich Maloney said. "These guys were selected by the MAC head coaches so these players earned the respect from the coaches group based on their outstanding performance. I'm proud of our boys for the hard work they put in and the fact they kept getting better. This recognition speaks volumes to their commitment to be their best. They continue our great tradition of our players earning All-League recognition."
Ball State is the No. 3 seed in this week's MAC Tournament in Avon, Ohio and is set to play No. 6 seed Eastern Michigan at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday to begin the week.
