Women’s Tennis Suffers 5-2 Road Loss at Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team (3-4) suffered a 5-2 road loss at Xavier (5-4) Friday afternoon at the Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club.
The Cardinals got off to a strong start taking an early 1-0 advantage versus the Musketeers after winning the doubles point. Isabel Tanjuatco paired up with Sarah Shahbaz on court No. 2. The duo defeated Xavier's No. 2 twosome of Emily Flowers and Elizabeth Pendergast, 6-3. It was a close contest at the No. 3 position, but Ella Hazelbaker and Elena Malkyh pulled through winning the tiebreaker 7-6 (8-6) to clinch the first point of the match.
In singles, Xavier came back to take five of the six courts from Ball State to complete the come-from-behind victory. The lone singles winner for the Cardinals would be Malkyh after she took down Pendergast in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 on the top court.
The Ball State women's tennis team returns home Sunday for a 1 pm ET first against in-state rival Butler.
