Women's Basketball Begins Three-Game Road Swing at Davidson Sunday

Opening Tip:
Sunday's contest is the second-ever meeting between Ball State (8-1) and Davidson (6-3). The Cardinals hosted the Wildcats a little over a year ago on Dec. 5 in Worthen Arena, resulting in a 80-61 victory for Ball State. Both squads are looking to stay on the winning track as the Cardinals recently defeated Oakland University by a score of 119-34 while the Wildcats defeated Duquesne in their A-10 conference opener by a 72-55 decision.
Last Game Notables:
- The Ball State women's basketball team is coming off of a 119-34 victory over Oakland University. The 119 points scored is tied for the second most in program history with the last time being on Dec. 30, 2022 against Chicago State.
- The contest was the Cardinals' ninth annual Kids Field Trip Day which brought in the program's third largest crowd of 4,903 fans.
- As a team, Ball State totaled 69 rebounds which is a program record.
- Bree Salenbien led the Cardinals with a 26-point performance while her teammate Grace Kingery ended the day with 16.
Road Warriors:
Under head coach Brady Sallee the Cardinals have played well on the road for the last 14 years under his watch. The Cardinals are 115-74 (.600) from 2012 until present on the road. Ball State's best season playing away from home was in 2020-21 when the Cardinals posted an 11-2 mark. Ball State is 5-0 this season on the road including neutral site games with defeats at Arkansas State, IU Indy, Memphis, Pitt and Alabama A&M.
Leader of the MAC:
Currently, the Cardinals lead the Mid-American Conference in offense (79.8), scoring margin (23.9), opponent field goal percentage (0.310), opponent 3-point field goals (0.204), combined team rebounding (52.1), team defensive rebounds (35.3) and assists (20.56).
Speaking of the MAC:
The Cardinals are set to open Mid-American Conference action at home on Dec. 20 against Eastern Michigan at 11 am ET. Its is part of a Holiday double-header with the Ball State men's basketball team who will play conference rival Miami at 2 pm ET.
International Success:
The Cardinals have had plenty of international success under 14th year head coach Brady Sallee. We all remember Nathalie Fontaine the 6-2 guard from Stockholm, Sweden became Ball State's all-time leading scorer with 2,166 points. The 2016 MAC Player of the Year and AP honorable mention averaged 21.0 points per game and 10.2 rebounds while making over 50 percent of her shots. After Fontaine was Carmen Grande a native from Madrid, Spain who held onto the all-time assists record with 697 until Ally Becki surpassed her last season with 721 and we also cannot forget Thelma Dis Agustsdottir from Keflavik, Iceland who holds the all-time 3-point record with 325 treys. Agustsdottir also competed at the Celsius 3-point championship at the NCAA Tournament.
Scouting Davidson:
- The Wildcats are led in scoring by Charlise Dunn who is averaging 16.8 points per game. Behind Dunn is Katie Donovan as she is averaging 10.8 points per contest. Dunn also leads the squad in rebounds pulling down 8.0 rebounds a game.
- The Davidson women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the Atlantic 10. Charlise Dunn, Katie Donovan and Candice Lienafa were all chosen to the A-10 all preseason teams.
- Gayle Fulks is in her ninth season at the helm of the Davidson women's basketball team. Over her nine years, Fulk has guided the Wildcats to 129 victories and two postseason appearances, including the 2025 WBIT.
