Women's Basketball Hosts Ninth Annual "Field Trip Day" Wednesday Against Oakland City

Opening Tip:
Today's contest will be the ninth-annual "Field Trip Day" a tradition that started under Brady Sallee in 2016-17. This is the fourth-ever regular season meeting between the two programs. The Cardinals own a 3-0 ledger over the Mighty Oaks. BSU last defeated Oakland City on Dec. 30, 2023 in Worthen Arena by a score of 95-58. The Cardinals are 8-0 on "Field Trip Day".
Florida Trip Recap:
- The Cardinals went 2-0 at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament in Naples, Nov. 28-29.
- Ball State defeated ACC foe Pitt for the third-straight time by a score of 55-41. The Cardinals placed three players in double figures with Bree Salenbien leading the way with 17 points. She also recorded her fourth double-double of the season adding 12 rebounds. Tessa Towers tallied her fifth double-double of her career with a 14 point, 13 rebound performance.
- The win over Pitt marked the second Power 4 conference victory this season for head coach Brady Sallee and the 10th for his career.
- Ball State collectively pulled down 51 rebounds against the Panthers.
- Against Alabama A&M, Ball State continued to have a strong performance defensively, as the Cardinals held the Bulldogs to a season low 38 points.
- Ball State defeated Alabama A&M by a 70-38 decision which was led in scoring by Anis Tagayi.
- As a team, the Cardinals totaled 56 rebounds versus the Bulldogs.
International Success:
The Cardinals have had plenty of international success under 14th year head coach Brady Sallee. We all remember Nathalie Fontaine the 6-2 guard from Stockholm, Sweden became Ball State's all-time leading scorer with 2,166 points. The 2016 MAC Player of the Year and AP honorable mention averaged 21.0 points per game and 10.2 rebounds while making over 50 percent of her shots. After Fontaine was Carmen Grande a native from Madrid, Spain who held onto the all-time assists record with 697 until Ally Becki surpassed her last season with 721 and we also cannot forget Thelma Dis Agustsdottir from Keflavik, Iceland who holds the all-time 3-point record with 325 treys. Agustsdottir also competed at the Celsius 3-point championship at the NCAA Tournament.
Scouting Oakland City:
- The Mighty Oaks will play Tuesday evening ahead of tomorrow mornings contest against the Cardinals. The game for Oakland City will be an exhibition contest versus Ball State but a regular season game for the Cardinals. The Mighty Oaks are currently 1-7 overall with its lone victory coming against Alice Lloyd College by a score of 88-82 on Nov. 22.
- Oakland City is led in scoring by Allyson Rideout (12.5 ppg) and Elise Williams (12.3 ppg).
- Ball State will also welcome back Muncie native Allison Bucur to Muncie. Bucur is a sophomore guard that went to the Burris Laboratory School.
- Oties Epps is in his first season with the Mighty Oaks. Epps was the head coach at Evansville from 2011-2016 where he faced the Cardinals five times. Ball State owns a 3-2 record against Epps.
What's Next:
The Cardinals head on the road for their next three contests. Ball State will travel to Davidson for a 4:30 pm ET tip-off on Sunday before playing at Louisville (Dec. 10) and then South Dakota State (Dec. 14).

Ball State head coach Brady Sallee has defeated a Power 4 conference team 10 times during his tenure with the Cardinals — Minnesota (54-51, 2012-13), Iowa (77-72, 2015-16), Vanderbilt (88-79, 2017-18), Purdue (66-60, 2017-18), Pitt (68-66, 2022-23), Pitt (73-62, 2023-24), Georgia (52-51, 2023-24), Texas A&M (75-62), Cincinnati (83-63) and Pitt (55-41).
The Cardinals have been strong on the boards so far this season. Ball State is outpacing its opponents on the board 50.0 to 36.9. Defensively, the Cardinals have totaled 279 rebounds this season. The Cardinals pulled down a season best 63 rebounds against Memphis (11/15/25) which is good for second all-time in the Cardinals' record books.
