The Cardinals (9-5-2, 6-3-1 Mid-American Conference) clinched a spot in next month's MAC Tournament with a 1-0 win at Bowling Green on Sunday. Addie Chester scored an unassisted goal in the 34th minute for the game-winner.
The RedHawks (9-5-2, 6-2-2 MAC) have won back-to-back matches by 3-0 margins, with decisions at Ohio on Thursday and vs Central Michigan last Sunday.
Courtney Sirmans is in her eighth season as the head coach at Miami, who was picked to finish seventh in the 13-team MAC head coaches poll.
The RedHawks lead the league in shutout percentage (.563, No. 22 in NCAA Division I). They also have been whistled for the most yellow cards in the MAC (20, No. 24). Miami scores the third-most goals per game (1.44) and has the fourth-best goals-against average (.875) in the conference.
Junior goalkeeper Dominique Popa has tallied nine shutouts for the seventh-most in Division I, and her .875 goals-against average is fourth in the MAC.
The Cardinals will conclude the regular season with a Wednesday afternoon match at Northern Illinois.
CHESTER REWARDED WITH ANOTHER RECOGNITION: Senior Addie Chester scored one goal each in last Thursday's match vs Toledo and Sunday at Bowling Green to be voted the MAC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this year.
The Muncie, Ind., native also was recognized with the honor on Aug. 26 and Sept. 9. She joined Avery Fenchel as the second player in program history to score double digit goals in multiple seasons. Fenchel had 11 in both 2022 and 2023, while Chester had 10 in 2024 and currently stands at 10 this season.
Chester paces the Mid-American Conference in goals (10), points (24) and game-winning goals (four) so far this year. She also leads the league in goals per game (0.63) and points per game (1.50).
Chester has upped her career totals to 22 goals (20 at Ball State) and 20 assists (12) and ranks fifth and eighth in those categories, respectively, in program history.
CARDS ON A ROLL: Sunday's 1-0 win at Bowling Green was Ball State's fourth in a row, which is the longest current winning streak in the MAC, and helped the Cardinals secure a spot in next month's MAC Tournament.
Ball State had a six-match unbeaten streak earlier this season spanning from an Aug. 24 win at Eastern Illinois to a Sept. 18 draw against Central Michigan. The 2024 Cardinals won the first four games that September.
ROAD RUNNERS: Ball State improved its record in road contests to 7-2 thanks to the 1-0 decision at Bowling Green.
The Cardinals are the only team in the MAC with more than five wins in away games this year.
CALDWELL CAREER MILESTONE LOOKOUT: Senior forward Delaney Caldwell recorded goals in the season opener vs Purdue on Aug. 17, on Sept. 18 vs Central Michigan and Sept. 25 at Buffalo, but is within striking distance of setting a program record in another category.
Caldwell is three assists away from tying Ehren Reagor's program record of 18 in a career, while she is two goals away from cracking the Top 5 in that career category as well.
