PEORIA, Ill. - Carly Spletzer led a group of four Ball State cross country runners on Friday afternoon at the Bradley Pink Classic.
The graduate student crossed the line in 20:59.80 for the 6,000-meter race to finish in 14th place in the field of 205. Spletzer improved by 40 seconds from her first 6K race of the season back on Sept. 19 at the George Dales Invite.
Freshman Emily Decker finished with a time of 21:47.80 for an improvement of more than 30 seconds from her previous 6K. Fellow freshman Rosie Gonzalez also set a personal best at the distance of 22:26.1 at the last race before the Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1 in Buffalo, N.Y.
Junior Kendyl Thrasher was the third Cardinal to set a personal record in the 6k with a 23:42.0 mark.
"Today was a strong day for the team, with three lifetime PRs and one season's best in the 6K," said Ball State head coach Adrian Wheatley. "As a group, they achieved a two-minute and eight-second improvement over their first 6K times earlier this year.
"The athletes' preparation, belief in one another and commitment to the team-first mentality are paying off. This performance confirms we're on the right track heading into the championship in a few weeks."
