October 17, 2025 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team honored its five seniors with a 2-1 double overtime victory against Bellarmine Friday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex. The game-winner came from Julia Verrati who scored both goals for the Cardinals today.Â
Â
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 4-12 overall and 2-4 in Mid-American Conference action while Bellarmine falls to 2-12 on the year and 2-4 in league play.Â
Â
It was a heated defensive battle throughout the 60-minute duration of today's game which carried on into both overtime periods.Â
Â
The Cardinals would strike first at the start of the second frame as Verrati found the back of the cage unassisted to give BSU the early 1-0 edge against Bellarmine. About four minutes later Anouk Richters capitalized on a penalty corner to knot the game 1-1 as both squads headed into halftime.Â
Â
After the break, as the score remained even, both teams turned up their defense playing aggressively the remainder of regulation to send the contest into overtime.Â
Â
Both squads were unable to score in the first OT which sent the game into its second extra period. It was at the 77:26 mark when senior Jessica Rochat found Julia Verratti for the winning goal. Verratti now leads the squad with six goals this season and two game-winners.Â
Â
This was the fifth overtime game for Ball State this season and the third in MAC play. The Cardinals are 2-1 in league action in OT.Â
Â
The win was awarded to the Cardinals goalkeeper, Carleigh Hofelich who faced three corners today while registering two saves.
Prior to the contest, Ball State recognized its five seniors, Grace Clokie, Christine Ditizio, Jessica Rochat, Maddie Summitt, and Emma van Hal.Â
The Ball State field hockey team continues #MACtion when it plays at Miami Sunday in Oxford, Ohio. The game is slated to begin at 1 pm ET.Â
