Brunner Leads Men's S&D in Friday Meet
January 10, 2025 | Men's Swimming and Diving
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - - Sophomore Tommy Brunner turned in the second-fastest 1000 freestyle time in the Ball State record book, clocking in at 9:25.77, to earn the event win and lead the squad in its first stop of a busy weekend at the Vigo County Aquatic Center.
It was Brunner's first event win of the season and the Cardinals best event finish in losses to the University of Indianapolis and Southern Illinois in a meet hosted by Indiana State.
To go along with a victory in the 1000, sophomore Malcolm Slater clocked in a second-place finish for Ball State in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:36.47.
On the 3M board, freshman Mitchell Mauck placed second with a season-best six-dive score of 268.40. It was over 34 points better than his previous season-best effort.
Taking third place in the 100 breaststroke was sophomore Aidan Biddle (56.99), while freshman Luke Pryor followed suit with a third-place finish of his own in the 200 butterfly (1:52.63).
Due to travel concerns caused by current Winter Storm Cora, Saturday's Ball State swimming & diving home meet versus Evansville has been canceled. However, the Cardinals will still celebrate its 12-member senior class Saturday with a 2 p.m. intrasquad scrimmage at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
Senior festivities are set to start at 1:45 p.m., prior to the start of the scrimmage. As always, admission to Ball State swimming & diving home meets are free.
