September 08, 2024 | Women's Volleyball
LEXINGTON, Ky. - - In another tough test, the Ball State women's volleyball team closed play in the Kentucky Invitational with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-13) setback to ninth-ranked Kentucky Sunday afternoon at Memorial Coliseum.
Â
After dropping the opening set, the Cardinals (3-3) were in position to take the second when a kill from sophomore middle Camryn Wise gave the guests from Muncie a 20-19 edge.
Â
Unfortunately, the Wildcats (5-2) closed with six of the next seven to win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match. UK would follow with the first 12 points in the third frame, ending the Cardinals hopes for an upset.
Â
Once again, redshirt sophomore outside Aniya Kennedy led the Ball State offense with nine kills, three shy of the match high. Freshman outside Carson Tyler also turned in a solid effort with seven kills and a pair of solo blocks.
Â
In the backcourt, freshman libero Sophie Ledbetter was credited with a team-high seven digs, while senior setter Megan Wielonski was right behind with five. Wielonski also dised out 22 assists and had one of BSU's two aces. The other went to Wise.
Â
Brooklyn DeLeye led the Kentucky offense with 12 kills, while Molly Tuozzo registered a match-high 22 digs.
Â
The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to action Friday, when it opens play in the Indiana Invitational with a 3 p.m. first serve versus Chicago State.
