Ball State Baseball Alumnus Hit Home Runs in Back-to-Back Games
Ball State baseball alumnus Alex Call hit home runs on Saturday and Sunday for the Washington Nationals at Philadelphia after recently collecting a walk-off single against the Angels as part of a hot stretch for the outfielder since being called back up to the big leagues on July 29.
The 2016 Mid-American Conference player of the year has collected hits in 15 of 19 games during the stretch including a six-game streak of multiple knocks ranging from Aug. 6-11. Call's game-ending single in Washington's 3-2 win over the Angels on Aug. 9 put a wrap on his second three-hit game of the year in the majors.
Call, who was named an All-American by multiple publications following the 2016 campaign in Muncie, has gone 26-for-71 (.366) with seven doubles and 13 RBI in 19 games since being recalled. The right-handed hitter has been slotted in at leadoff and second in the batting order in recent games while also impressing with his glove work in right field.
Overall, Call has posted a .356/.434/.552 slash line while accumulating 1.4 wins above replacement (Baseball-Reference) in only 26 games so far this season with the Nationals. Call and Washington begin a three-game series at the Yankees on Tuesday night.
