
The Tennessee Invite Provided Many Personal Success for Track and Field

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Ball State track and field competed at the Tennessee Invite in Knoxville, Tennessee over the weekend. Â
The team saw many new personal and season bests throughout all events. Competition opened Friday afternoon with a personal best throw in discus for Sydney Miller. She hit a mark of 43.89m, good for third place. Â
On the track, Sarah Mahnensmith finished seventh and ran a new personal best in the 1500m, crossing the line with a time of 4:33.02. Ella Fullmer also collected a personal best Friday night, finishing the 5000m run 20 seconds faster than her previous best for a time of 18:01.94. Â
Momentum continued on Saturday as Miller hit another personal best after hitting a mark of 11.86m in the shot put. Â
The jumpers had a good day with multiple top finishes. In the triple jump, Brenna Lehrke finished ninth with a personal best jump of 11.54m. Soon after, in the high jump, Malina Miller finished fourth with a mark of 1.70m. Â
The 4x100m relay team, made up of Makayla Sumrall, Alana Springer, Moriah Johnson and Jenna Oriani ran a strong race, finishing in 45.41. Â
Mahnensmith had another successful day on Saturday, running a personal best in the 800m. She finished in a time of 2:17.62. Also in the 800m, Alexis Thigpen ran a college best time of 2:18.50. Â
The 4x400m relay closed out the Cardinals' weekend. The team of Lindley Steele, Jenelle Rogers, Alexis Thigpen and Paige Kirtz crossed the finish line with a time of 3:48.52, good for sixth place. Â
"I am proud to say that our young ladies performed exceptionally well today, achieving a lot of season bests and personal records across different events," said head coach Adrian Wheatley. "It was a great opportunity for them to compete against different programs. Our ladies are thrilled to have the chance to compete at home next week in front of their friends, families and supporters." Â
The Cardinals will return home next weekend, April 12-13, for the We Fly Challenge hosted at the track at Briner Sports Complex. Seniors will be recognized on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. Â
