
Softball Sweeps Tuesday Twinbill at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - - The Ball State softball team earned a Tuesday sweep at East Tennessee State, winning the opener 6-0 and taking the nightcap 8-1 at Betty Basler Field.

With the doubleheader sweep, the Cardinals improve to 10-11 on the year and are now 4-2 on its annual spring break trip. The Bucs fall to 4-12 with the losses.

The opener saw another dominating pitching performance from senior Francys King, who limited the Bucs to four hits and one walk over her 7.0 innings. She also struck out one on her way to earning her third complete game shutout win of the year.

On the offensive front, redshirt junior catcher / first baseman McKayla Timmons provided the biggest blast with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning. It was her 10th home run of the season and the 26th of her Ball State career. The 26 career home runs are currently tied as the seventh-most in program history.

The nightcap saw another solid pitching performance, this time from senior Bridie Murphy. Over her 7.0 innings of work, Murphy held the Bucs to four hits, three walks and one run. She also struck out three of the 27 batters she faced for her third complete game victory of the season.

Seven different Cardinals registered at least one hit in the second game, with the biggest being a three-run double by senior center fielder Remington Ross to cap the scoring in the game.
