
Women’s Tennis Suffers 6-1 Setback at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback on the road Friday afternoon at Dayton. With the loss, the Cardinals fell to 2-7 overall while the Flyers improved to 6-4 on the year. Dayton has now won six straight matches.
The Cardinals dropped the doubles point to the Flyers after Dayton took wins on courts one and two. Although, BSU lost the first point, the No. 2 doubles tandem of Sarah Shahbaz and Isabelle Tanjuatco did walk away with a victory after beating the Flyers No. 2 duo of Elizabeth Hamilton and Marra Bruce, 6-1.
The lone winner in singles for Ball State was Ella Hazelbaker after she pulled off a highly competitive match over Erica Wojcikiewicz at the No. 5 singles position. Hazelbaker took the first frame from Wojcikiewicz 7-6 (4). She fell in the second 7-5 but prevailed in the two-set tiebreaker 10-8 for the win. The Flyers would earn points on courts four, two, three, six and one in that order to clinch today's victory.
The Ball State women's tennis team returns to the court Sunday, March 3 when it plays at Butler. First serve is at noon.
