A Pair of Even-Par Rounds Leads Women’s Golf on Saturday

RIO VERDE, Ariz. - - Sophomore Sarah Gallagher and freshman JJ Gregston each posted even-par rounds of 72 Saturday afternoon to pace the Ball State women's golf team on the second day of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational hosted by Western Michigan.
Gallagher's effort followed a one-under round of 71 Friday on the 6,024-yard, 72-par Quail Run Course at the Rio Verde Country Club and has her currently tied for sixth overall at 143 (-1). She is just two stokes out of the top three and six strokes back of tournament leader Kara Carter from Xavier who is at 137 (-7).
After carding three birdies in her opening round Friday, Gallagher added two more on Saturday to go along with an eagle on the par-five sixth. She is one of just seven golfers to record a birdie over the first two days of the event.
With her even-par round Saturday, Gregston moved nine spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 32nd. She recorded four birdies in her second round and is tied with Gallagher for the team lead with five so far this weekend.
The Cardinals also counted rounds of 76 (+4) from sophomore Jasmine Driscoll and 79 (+7) from sophomore Madelin Boyd to shave five strokes off yesterday's team total with a 299.
Overall, the Cardinals enter Sunday's final round with a team score of 603 (+27) and is currently 14th among the 21-team field. However, BSU is just seven strokes out of the top 10. Xavier leads the tournament at 575 (-1), while Ohio is currently the leader among the seven Mid-American Conference schools in the event at 590 (+14).
The final round of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational is slated to being at 10:30 a.m. ET / 8:30 a.m. MST Sunday with starting holes to be determined later in the evening.
