Baseball Voted Second in MAC Preseason Poll

The Ball State baseball team was voted to finish second in the Mid-American Conference Baseball Preseason Poll, the league office announced Tuesday.
The Cardinals got 93 points and three first place votes to slot in behind Kent State, who got 98 points and eight first place votes. Central Michigan (68 points), Western Michigan (67) and Ohio (61) were the teams with the next-highest point tallies in a vote of the MAC head coaches.
In the vote for the tournament winner, the Golden Flashes got eight votes, the Broncos two and the Cardinals one.
Ball State features First Team All-MAC outfielder Decker Scheffler and All-Defensive Team catcher Hunter Dobbins from the 2023 team that won the MAC Tournament to advance to the fourth NCAA Regional in program history.
Rich Maloney enters his 19th year leading the Cardinals (29 years overall as a head coach) sporting 953 career wins. Ball State opens the season on Friday playing Lehigh at the Swig & Swine Classic in Charleston, S.C.
