Cardinals Fall at Texas State in MAC-SBC Challenge

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Ball State men's basketball team fell 68-60 to Texas State on Saturday afternoon in Strahan Arena.
The Cardinals (12-12) led 13-4 early, but the Bobcats (11-14) responded with an 11-0 scoring run to take the lead. Ball State tied the score at 29-29 following a pair of Jalin Anderson free throws, but Texas State ended the half on an 8-2 rally to take a 37-31 edge into the break.
Ball State scored the first four points of the second half, but the hosts extended the lead to as many as 14 points at 63-49. The visitors responded by scoring seven straight to make the score 63-56 with just under five minutes to play, but that would be the closest they would get.
Basheer Jihad scored a game-high 19 points and added nine rebounds and three steals. Mickey Pearson Jr. (13 points, five rebounds), Davion Bailey (12 points, five rebounds) and Trent Middleton Jr. (11 points, six rebounds) joined him in double figures.
Texas State enjoyed a 39-0 advantage in bench points and a 30-20 edge on points in the paint. The Bobcats got 11 points each out of Coleton Benson and Jordan Mason while Davion Sykes produced a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
The Cardinals shot 38.8 percent (19-49) from the field including 43.8 percent (7-16) from distance while going 75.0 percent (15-20) at the free throw line. Texas State went 46.6 percent (27-56) on field goals overall and 38.5 percent (5-13) on 3-pointers.
Texas State outrebounded Ball State 36-32 and had one less turnover (13-12).
Ball State gets a bye week before returning to Mid-American Conference play at Miami (OH) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
