WOLCOTT, Colo. - - The Ball State women's golf team saved its best round for last, tallying a 301 (+13) to climb two spots in the final standings of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic Wednesday afternoon at the Fazio Course at the Red Sky Golf Club.
"This week was a great learning experience for our team even though we didn't shoot the scores we are capable of shooting," head coach Cameron Andry said. "Red Sky Golf Club is a fantastic course that requires you to play with patience and utilize the slopes of the course. We didn't always do that well and we learned some hard lessons. However, those lessons will pay dividends down the road for us."
The effort, led by a one-under round of 71 by sophomore Jasmine Driscoll, was better than four other programs on the day and helped the Cardinals tie for 13th overall with a score of 921 (+57).
Driscoll's 71 (-1) was the best round for the Cardinals over the three-day event and included four birdies. The effort also helped her climb 19 spots in the final standings into a tie for 35th with a score of 227 (+11).
Sophomore Sarah Gallagher also finished with her best round of the tournament, shotting 74 (+2) Wednesday. Combined with a pair of 75s on the opening two days, Gallagher finished tied for 25th among the 89-golfer field.
"It was great to see Jasmine finish with a round in the red and Sarah was very steady all week long," Andry added.
Senior Kiah Parrott also closed with her best round of the event, turning in a 77 (+5) in a round that included five birdies.
Wednesday's team round of 301 (+13) was its best of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic by seven strokes and helped the Cardinals gain seven strokes each on Murray State and UIC to tie for 13th in the final team rankings.
Next up for the Ball State women's golf team, the Loyola Parkinson Invitational held at the Merit Club in Libertyville, Illinois, Oct. 9-10.
