Women's Golf Finishes Strong On Day 1 Of Golfweek Red Sky Classic

WOLCOTT, Colo. - - The Ball State women's golf team made some noise late in Monday's opening round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, combining for seven birdies and an eagle on the final four holes on a challenging Fazio Course at the Red Sky Golf Club.
Junior Sabrina Langerak finished her opening round strong, collecting the Cardinals' lone eagle on the par-5, 512-yard 18th hole to cap a round of 76 (+4). It was Langerak's, a transfer from Taylor University, first eagle for Ball State and helped her finish in a tie for 42nd among the 89-golfer field.
Sophomore Sarah Gallagher led the Cardinals in round one, collecting three birdies over her final four holes to finish at 75 (+3) and in a tie for 36th. She added a birdie on the par-4, 279-yard third hole, giving her a team-high four in the opening round.
Overall, the Cardinals were one of the top squads on the course's four par 5 holes, finishing with a combined average of 4.80 (-4), trailing only ninth-ranked Pepperdine's average of 4.75 (-5).
As a team, Ball State fired a 308 (+20) and are currently 16th among a tough field, which includes last week's Brittany Kelly Classic runner-up UIC which sits 15th at 307 (+19). The Cardinals are just nine strokes out of the top 10 and 13 strokes off a top five placement.
The nationally ranked and defending event champion Waves lead the tournament at 285 (-3), the only squad in red numbers.
Round two of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic begins at 10 a.m. MT Tuesday, with the Cardinals teeing off on the back nine starting at with senior Kiah Parrott at 10:55 a.m. MT.
