Ball State Grads Named to Lead Cardinals Athletic Marketing Staff
June 26, 2023 | General
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State University Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell has named 2014 Ball State alum Kevin Mullaney as the Cardinals' assistant athletics director for championship experience and brand elevation. Mullaney returns to Ball State Athletics with over seven years in sports marketing and ticketing experience, in addition to the past two years already on the Ball State campus as associate director of alumni engagement with the BSU Alumni Association.
Â
Reconstructing the Cardinals' marketing department that promotes 19 varsity intercollegiate sports, Mullaney is paired with Josh Grimes as the director of experiential marketing. Grimes recently completed a master's degree in sports administration at Ball State and is elevated from his existing position as BSU's sports marketing graduate assistant.
Â
While Grimes will focus on game operations and in-game promotions across Ball State's landscape of home sports events, the duo will engage with ticketing and communications staff to increase attendance initiatives and broaden revenue opportunities through sales, advertising and corporate partnerships.
Â
"I am excited to welcome Kevin Mullaney to our administrative team," said Mitchell. "Kevin possesses a unique skill set with extensive experience in the fan engagement space and a deep understanding of the Ball State fan base. I expect that he will blend these talents to help us develop a robust strategy for experiential marketing which will lead to an enhanced game day experience for our fans."Â
Â
Prior to his work with the alumni association, Mullaney spent four years as the associate director of ticket operations at Notre Dame, focused on ticketing strategies and revenue generation for premier sports programs including football, men's basketball, women's basketball and hockey. He also helped optimize ticket sales during a 14-month stint as box office manager with Pacers Sports & Entertainment. Originally from Hammond, Indiana, Mullaney began his career working in the ticket office at Notre Dame in August 2014, following undergraduate years in Muncie that featured work with the Ball State marketing staff and performances as Charlie Cardinal.
Â
"It's great to be back at Ball State!," said Mullaney. "I'm excited to work alongside some amazing people and provide our student athletes with the best college experience possible. We will continue to work hard and engage our students, fans, and alumni and show them the amazing things happening across all our athletic programs."
Â
Grimes is a Muncie native who attended Yorktown High School prior to beginning work in college athletics during undergraduate days at Indiana University in Bloomington.
