Five Female Student-Athletes Named To CSC Academic All-District At-Large Team

INDIANAPOLIS - - Ball State Athletics saw five female student-athletes across three sports honored Tuesday (May 23) with spots on the prestigious 2022-23 Academic All-District® At-Large Team as selected by College Sports Communicators.
The Cardinals were represented by two members of the gymnastics program, junior Hannah Ruthberg and senior Megan Teter. Junior Emma Hilton and senior Kerrianne McClay were honored from the field hockey program, while sophomore Payton Bennett represented women's golf.
Ruthberg (Business Administration / 3.97 GPA), a two-time MAC All-Tournament Team selection, helped the gymnastics program earn its first MAC Regular Season title and second-ever team berth in the NCAA Regionals. NCAA individual qualifier in the all-around, Ruthberg placed sixth overall in the second round of 2023 NCAA Norman Regional with a score of 39.100. She also tied the program's individual all-around record with a score of 39.400 at Missouri Quad (March 10, 2023).
Teter (Chemistry / 3.72 GPA), the 2023 Mid-American Conference bars runner-up, helped the gymnastics program earn its first MAC Regular Season title and second-ever team berth in the NCAA Regionals. An NCAA individual qualifier on bars and floor for the 2023 season, competing in both events in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Norman Regional, she also took on bars at the 2021 NCAA Regionals. Teter, who also finished runner-up on floor at the 2022 MAC Championship, holds the program record on bars at 9.950 set at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic (Jan. 20, 2023)
Hilton (Exercise Science / 3.93 GPA), A staple in the field hockey lineup in all 19 games this season, Hilton ranked second on the team with 10 points. She scored three goals and tallied four assists. Her play helped the Cardinals reach the MAC Tournament for the first time since the 2019 season and earn the most wins (7) since 2016. Hilton was also a member of the 2020 Zag/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad.
McClay (Psychological Science / 3.92 GPA), a staple in the field hockey lineup in all 19 games this season, was credited with six points on the year. She scored two goals and tallied a pair of assists. Her play helped the Cardinals reach the MAC Tournament for the first time since the 2019 season and earn the most wins (7) since 2016. McClay was also the recipient of the 2023 NCAA Women's Enhancement Graduate Scholarship.
Bennett (Sport Administration / 4.00 GPA), played in eight of the women's golf team's 11 events this season, producing an 81.33 average. Her best event of the year was a +17 (233) at the EKU Colonel Classic (April 3-4, 2023). Bennett also placed 26th among the field of 93 golfers at the Butler Fall Invitational (Oct. 3-4, 2023) with a score of +25 (235).
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, achieve sophomore standing at their current school, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and be nominated by her sports information director.
All five Ball State student-athletes will be eligible for voting for CSC Academic All-America® honors which will be announced on June 21.
