T&F Honors Six Seniors and Shows Strong Performances at We Fly Challenge

MUNCIE, Ind.—The Ball State track and field team had a special day at the We Fly Challenge where they dominated in their respective events and celebrated their six seniors.
"I am proud of how the ladies represented themselves on and off the track this weekend. Having an opportunity to compete in front of family, friends, and friends of the program is always exciting. This program continues to keep committing to the mission and doing so with a selfless mindset," said head coach Adrian Wheatley. "I shared with the team I saw a team that competed with pride. Pride of being a member of our team, pride in their performances, pride of competing at home, pride in their teammates, and lastly pride in Ball State University!"
The Cardinals began the day with an event win from the 4x100 relay squad of Moriah Johnson, Alana Springer, Lindley Steele and Jenna Oriani.
The 1500m displayed a close race between Sarah Mahnensmith and Sarah Greer. Sarah Mahnensmith earned the heat win and the event win by less than five tenths of a second. Vivian Van Eck won her heat in the 1500m and earned a personal best (4:50). Each Cardinal that participated in the 1500m notched a personal best today.
Picking up another event win for the Cardinals was Charity Griffith in the 100m hurdles. She showed her consistency and her ability to break 13.9 seconds in the event. Jennah Rogers ran a huge personal best in the 100m hurdles (14.1), and Mary Porter also recorded a big 100m hurdles personal best with a 14.66.
Alana Springer earned a personal best in the 100m with a 11.77. Taylor Hickman improved from a 12.80 to a 12.50 in the 100m.
Jenna Oriani tallied a heat and event win in the 400m and ran a season best time. Allison Valladay finished in third, and Emma Potter was right behind her in fourth place.
Allison Valladay and Lindley Steele broke the 25-second mark for the first time in their career in the 200m. Jenna Oriani showed her consistency in the 200m running a sub 24.40 time.
Lea-Marie Diedicke earned a heat win and picked up an event win in the 400m hurdles and earned a personal best. Leila Williams-Molitor completed the one-two finish in the event.
Malena Higgins is showing growth and consistency in both the shot put and discus throw, earning personal bests in both events.
The Cardinals compete next at the Jesse Owens Classic when they travel to Ohio State University on April 21 and April 22.
