
Cardinals Advance to Championship of Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play

DADE CITY, Florida – The Cardinals finished the first two rounds of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play with a 4-1-1 win over the Central Michigan Chippewas and a 3-3 tie against High Point University, advancing them to the championship match tomorrow.
Today's lineup consisted of fifth-year senior Joey Ranieri, sophomore Kash Bellar, redshirt sophomore Griffin Hare, redshirt sophomore Ali Khan, freshman Carter Smith and sophomore Colin Nasser.
Through the first 18 holes, Ranieri had a steady performance and collected a one UP win. After being two down through 11 holes, Bellar ended the first round with a 3&1 win. Smith finished with a one UP win while Nasser completed an impressive comeback with a six UP win after being two down through the first nine.
The second match of the day began at 1:30 p.m. against High Point University. The Cardinals finished the match with an even 3-3 tie, battling High Point from the start. The Cardinals earned a spot in the championship match, as Ball State won more holes than High Point. Ranieri wrapped up match two with a 2&1 win. Khan picked up a 3&1 win while Smith recorded a 4&3 win to match High Point University's three wins.
The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. for the championship of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play. Ball State will face Drake. Live results can be found here.
