Promotions for Elliott and Morris Headline Changes to Cardinals Football Staff
December 07, 2023 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Jared Elliott has been promoted to offensive coordinator and Adam Morris assumes new duties as recruiting coordinator as head coach Mike Neu and the Cardinal football staff begin looking ahead to the 2024 football season.
Elliott will lead the Ball State offensive unit after accepting his second promotion in as many years with the Cardinals. A former head coach at Western Illinois, Elliott was named the Cardinals' passing game coordinator and tight ends coach when he arrived in Muncie in 2022, and last year he was elevated to co-offensive coordinator, a title he shared with quarterbacks coach Kevin Lynch.
"Since he joined our staff," said Neu, "Jared has done a great job of developing two Freshman All American tight ends that didn't even play the position in high school. Every year his role continues to grow and I am confident that his leadership as our offensive coordinator will take us to new heights. His pass offenses at Western Illinois had record success at the FCS level and he has a proven history of developing young talent."
Lynch will remain the Cardinals' quarterbacks coach as he begins his ninth season under Neu. Lynch was the running backs coach and quarterbacks coach during the Cardinals' most recent bowl appearances in 2020 and 2021.
Morris now heads recruiting efforts for his alma mater. He played defensive line over three seasons at Ball State from 2008 to 2011, and returned to Muncie as defensive line coach this past season for his first year on Neu's staff. He directed a defensive line largely responsible for 25 sacks and a late-season surge that helped Ball State win three of its last five games.
"I love seeing one of our alums take a leadership position in our recruiting area," said Neu who joins Morris and offensive line coach Colin Johnson as former Cardinals on the Ball State staff. "Adam has been a great mentor and motivator in a coaching capacity, and he has a deep knowledge of Indiana, Illinois and Ohio high school football. Combined with his past experience as a high school coach, we think Adam's role in recruiting can enhance the Ball State brand."
A search for a new running backs coach is underway after the contract of former coach Joey Hecklinski was not renewed.
